Description
For your consideration is this incredible lot of "Son in Service" and "Home Front" pins from the Estate of Famous Georgian,Henrietta Stanley Dull (Mrs. Samuel Rice Dull - Or Mrs. S.R. Dull). She was best known for her 1928 book, "Southern Cooking." The book initially sold more then 250,000 copies and is still regarded by most culinary connoisseurs as the "bible of southern cooking." Most importantly to this listing, was her love of cooking for troops training at Camp Gordon during their training prior to WWI. It is estimated she cooked for more than 50,000 troops! She had two sons who enlisted in the Army during WWI, and these were her effects honoring their service. There are several nice pieces in this lot and the star of the show is the engraved "Son in Service" pin. It is one of the finest we've seen and made of solid 14 karat gold with Tiffany style clasp. There are many stories about Mrs. Dull online that show what a remarkable person she was, and was the first notable Southern Cooking "celebrity" - long before there was a Julia Child or Paula Deen. This is a fantastic little grouping and would be a great addition to any Georgian WWI collection - worthy of it's own space in a museum...
